April Showers (are frozen water splats)
I know better. But somehow I always let myself believe that just maybe we won’t have a “late” freeze after a spell of warm weather in the spring. I am, however, better at not putting plants out that are not cold tolerant. But the low 20s is rough, even for the ones that are “tough as old boots” —that is my new favorite saying from Gardener’s World (any other new bingers out there?). The cold arrived with snow that actually accumulated, which was good. I’m hoping there was enough to provide just a bit of insulation. We will know in a few days how things fared.
I had already put the first Snapdragons, Violas, and Bells of Ireland out. Fingers crossed!
If all goes well, we should be out of the woods after this, and I will resume hardening off the hundreds of (giant) plants from the basement next week.
Here are a few pictures from the cold event…
