Marilla Field & Flora is a flower farm and design studio in Dexter, Michigan.
10203 Easton Road

This workshop is for all levels. The purpose is to get to know your flower, make some sketches from flowers grown on the farm, and create a watercolor painting. If you are a beginner, we will scale the project to something that feels accesable.

The workshop is limited to 12 students so that we can give everyone personalized attention.
We provide all materials, but if you have favorites, you are welcome to bring them!
You will receive an email before the workshop with details about parking, dietary restrictions, and appropriate clothing. We will be working inside the barn/design studio, so the workshop will run rain or shine.
Refunds are available up to one week before the workshop. After that you are welcome to transfer your registration to a friend. If there is a wait-list, and we can fill your spot, we will issue a refund after the class.
Schedule (more or less)-
Arrive on the farm at 9:00 am— welcome to Marilla Field & Flora!

We will settle in, say hello, and go over our supplies and plan for the day

We will do some exercises to loosen up, learn about the parts of the flowers we will be painting, and prepare the sketch we will use for our final painting.

Flower farmer Adrianne will take us on a tour of the farm where we will see the barn, the fields, the hoop houses, and what is in bloom!

We will have a solid block of time to work on our paintings. There will be snacks and drinks available, as well as time to wander in the fflower fields if you need a break. Cara will be available to help students individually.

We will finish working on our pieces and depart at 1:00 pm.
Cara Cummings
Cara is a botanical artist, photographer, and
teacher based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She works in
watercolor, with a focus on what grows in her own garden seasonally. She has spent years teaching people to slow down and really see what's in front of them. Her classes are welcoming to beginners and experienced painters alike, and she brings the same close attention to teaching that she brings to her own work. She is delighted to be painting from Marilla's fields.
Adrianne Gammie
Adrianne is the farmer and florist at Marilla Field & Flora. She creates bespoke designs that speak to where we are in space and time; to Michigan and its glorious seasonality. She has a delicate hand that is also a bit wild. She sources first from her own farm, then from local flower farmers, and further afoot only when necessary. The designs she creates are meant to inspire a deeper connection to the natural world around us and cultivate joy from within.
