A Succulent Field Trip

In the Wild

I can be very drawn to a hermit-like lifestyle in the winter. Especially when the weather is 34 degrees and rainy and just gray, gray, gray for days. Without snow, or sun, or something to draw me out, I will stubbornly stay put in my studio and wait it out. So this past weekend, after a particularly dreary spell, I kicked myself (and John) out of the house for an adventure day.

We ended up in exactly the right place. I walked into Graye’s Greenhouse for the first time, and it was bright and warm, and the damp soil smelled like life. I wandered the rows of tiny green, blue, and purple succulents, some blooming with the tiniest delicate flowers, and there was a koi pond, and perfectly imperfect stacks of pots and vessels. Heaven.

Of course I brought a few plants home to the studio collection, and the tiny little things are providing an enormous amount of inspiration and happiness. A little bit goes a long way.
